The T is announcing a major renovation at the Uphams Corner Station on the Fairmont Branch of the Commuter Rail.
Town officials in Wayland are considering joining the new MetroWest Regional Transit Authority but express concern that the town would only be subsidizing bus service in Framingham.

It isn't just the parking in Salem. The T station is decrepit! The long stairway leading down to the tracks has been falling apart. I even fell down those steps once! (only a strained ankle, but still...)
At one point, the pedestrian approach to the station was one of the most dangerous places to walk in the city due to a broken fence and steep dropoff. Thanks to MassHighway, that is fixed, but the station entrance itself is still hazardous.
The newspaper doesn't mention that the T did present a design for the station several years ago, but the Federal Street Neighborhood Association fiercely opposed it.
I'd note that, judging by all the SUV's parked on the sidewalk there, and the fact that most of Federal St. is not in sight of the station, their opposition was due more to property values than any aesthetic or functional concerns.
For that matter, the South Salem flag stop near the college would have been a boon for them and would have reduced traffic considerably, but again, the neighborhood associations are really in charge in my town.
